Air Pollution Now Threatening Health Worldwide
Humanity is losing the battle for clean air. Despite decades of efforts to combat it, air pollution is taking a growing toll on human health, the environment, and the economy, according to a new Worldwatch Institute study.
Once primarily an urban phenomenon in industrial countries, air pollution has spread worldwide. More than a billion people--one-fifth of all humanity--live in communities that do not meet World Health Organization air quality standards.
In greater Athens, the number of deaths rises sixfold on heavily polluted days. Mexico City has been declared a hardship post for diplomats because of its unhealthy air. In Bombay, simply breathing is equivalent to smoking half a pack of cigarettes a day.
"The technological solutions tried to date have been inadequate, their gains often negated by growth," according to Hilary F. French, a Researcher at the Washington, D.C.-based organization and author of Clearing the Air: A Global Agenda. "Restoring air quality depends on restructuring the energy, transportation, and industrial systems that generate the pollutants."
In the U.S., air pollution causes as many as 50,000 deaths per year and costs as much as $40 billion a year in health care and lost productivity.
Around the world, Milan, Shenyang, Tehran, Seoul, and Rio de Janeiro reported the worst levels of sulfur dioxide--a pollutant directly harmful to humans. Paris and Madrid also made the top 10 in the list, produced by a U.N. monitoring network.
"In Bombay, simply breathing is equivalent to smoking half a pack of cigarettes a day." We can't imagine that the air in Bombay has been polluted seriously! If we don't see air pollution as a serious problem, our planet will be a SERIOUSLY POLLUTED PLANET. Let's treat this problem seriously!!
ReplyDeleteOnce the sulfer dioxide is emitted from factories, the clouds will be filled with sulferic acid, and the acid rain will harm vegetation and aquatic life.

ReplyDeleteI didn't think that air pollution can be equivalent to smoking....xD
I think government should set some restrict law to stop the people who are polluting the earth! If this issue continues the next generation may suffer serious air pollution, which is not good for the health...it may even cause cancer to youngster.Start not destroying but save the earth ! As Adrian said the acid rain will harm the vegetation and aquatic life, in other way it also will harm us,the fish we are consuming is poison by the acid rain ! When we consume the fish,we might get food poisoning!
ReplyDeleteSo many modern country faces the air pollution even SEOUL !! It was so serious that US air pollution causes 50 thousand people die PER YEAR !! For us,we must start to do something and influence other to do so !! We must save our mother earth !! SAVE OUR WORLD !!

ReplyDeleteWe can stop POLLUTION by: 1)Disposing garbage into bins or recycle bins. 2)Don't buy things that are unnecessary in your daily needs.(E.g.: Buy too much cup noodles, for this will cause air pollution cause the factories need to produce more cup noodles which will pollute the air.) 3)Save the earth resources & energy. 4)Remember to apply 3Rs(Reduce,Reuse,Recycle) in your life!
ReplyDeleteAgree with what you say. Also, eat too much cup noodles is also not good to our health!
DeleteThe improvement in the economu and lifestyle.ofalaysians have resulted in an increase in the demand of transportation.Petroleum is a type of liquid fuel that burn to release energy and it exhaust CO2 and No2that causes air pollution.Boats that carrying oil may spills oil out into the sea and causes water pollution:(
ReplyDeleteHowever,
Malaysia government put effort to reduce pollution. For example, many steps were taken by the PENANG <3 government, many houses in Penang they use solar panel which does not release harmful substances into the air.and recycling bins are placed in public places such as schools to encourage pp on recycle,reuse,recycle.<3
Penang...== ya, government can encourage citizens to install solar penal by reduce the price of it. this will make people to install it.
Deletehello hello is Penang govrnment-_-
DeleteWe should do our part to save the earth. This may lead to a more serious problem, example, more death, extinction of different species of animal etc. This might also cause the extinction of humans!
ReplyDeleteHuman will face what they did one day... :(
DeleteI think that we should mind ourselves 1st then mind others.
DeleteSometimes we did but we didn't care.
Human will have retribution on what they do,so we should watch ur action now!
ReplyDeleteEvery thing that human does were just a selfish action ,it just bring the earth go down and the top health problem that human is facing is the cancel@@!!
